DTS Therapy

DTS Therapy is an Alternative to Surgery

If you are having back pain and problems, decompression therapy might be the answer you have been looking for! Dr. Charles Smith at Smith Family Wellness in Honolulu, HI provides a variety of treatment options. There are different types of spinal decompression therapy, including surgical procedures, but many patients can benefit significantly from the non-invasive types of decompression therapy that a trained chiropractor can provide.

What is decompression therapy?

Decompression therapy is a type of spinal treatment that utilizes motorized traction to stretch the spine, which in turn will ultimately reposition the spine and alleviate pressure that is being placed on the discs between the vertebrae.

What does decompression therapy treat?

Decompression therapy is used to treat a variety of back and neck conditions, including bulging or herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, posterior facet syndrome (or worn joints), and sciatica.

What happens during decompression therapy?

During decompression therapy, computerized tables are usually utilized to move and stretch the patient. The patient will be fitted with a harness and then they will lay on a table where the harness will be secured. Once the patient is lying in the appropriate position and harnessed to the table, the provider will operate the table and put it into different positions to gently stretch out the patient's spine.

Spinal decompression therapy is not painful and in many cases, the patient actually finds it relaxing. Some may even fall asleep during the therapy.

How long does it take to undergo decompression therapy and how long does it take to show benefits?

While every case and every patient is different, on average, spinal decompression treatments usually last for anywhere from 15 to 30 sessions. Each session generally takes about 30 to 45 minutes to perform.

Some patients may begin to see subtle benefits and effects from spinal decompression therapy within a week or so after they begin receiving treatment. However, most people will feel the greatest amount of benefits several weeks after the treatments begin.
